Penn’s work explores the accidental beauty and abstraction of ordinary, often overlooked spaces and materials found in the urban landscape, and the permanence of the things we create, both as artists and inhabitants of Earth. He starts with an action, an idea, a natural occurrence; like a spiral that adapts as the composition grows. Every step of the process is equally important, and each mark made informs the next. Guided by the meandering pattern itself, there becomes little distinction between artist and artwork. There’s an intrinsic and unforced flow of operations. Together we seek a unified intersection of chaos and control; fear and joy walking in tandem on a tightrope.
